The key role Said Benrahma’s mum played in his decision to join Lyon from West Ham in January transfer window

The Algerian attacker, who spent the last three and a half seasons at West Ham, left the club in the January transfer window to join Ligue 1 giants Lyon. After signing for the French side, the player has now revealed his mother played an important role in his taking the decision of heading to France.

Speaking to the media for the first time since moving to France, Benrahma said, "She was super happy because she was really well received. When I spoke with Lyon, as soon as I explained it to her, she told me 'we're going to Lyon."

The 28-year-old's move had almost collapsed after Lyon accused the Hammers of failing to complete the necessary admin on their side on the transfer deadline. This happened after the player travelled to France. A day later, though, they officially announced Benrahma's arrival at the club.
